A cure for cabin fever

What season is it in your part of the world?

Here in the Northeast U.S., we are coming to the end of winter, thankfully!

Similar to a BMW, we can go from slightly above zero to sixty not in a minute, but definitely over the course of a day.

The morning can dawn below freezing, and yet by mid-afternoon, the temperature might be in the soul-warming high fifties.

Looking out my window, I can still see bits of snow on the ground, yet if I wander over to the other more southerly side of the house, the daffodils are beginning to bud.

Go figure.

We have a saying here in New England: If you don’t like the weather, just wait a minute. . .

That being said, we can get very impatient as we await the slow turn of the seasons.

To cope with that cooped-in, need to feel the sun on our face and joy in our hearts time, otherwise known as Cabin Fever, sometimes we just have to create more favorable conditions ourselves.

I am sharing about a cure for Cabin Fever over at The Happy Wives Club today, and I invite you to join me over there for a fresh perspective on how to combat it or other things that bring on the blues!

Did you catch that awful bug that goes around this time every year?

Here in the Northeast U.S., it tends to strike with a vengeance towards the end of the snow but before the flowers awaken.

You can’t miss the symptoms: a bone-deep weariness, difficulty breathing, and an unbearable urge to throw off multiple layers of warm clothes as we run screaming through the streets, crazily yelling, I can’t take this cold weather anymore! Bring on spring!”

My dear hubby and I were struck with an extraordinarily virulent strain of the dreaded Cabin Fever in the thick of our innkeeping days. Our B&B was particularly busy in the winter, and consequently our hours were long, time for rest and relaxation was short, and patience was stretched thin.

  1. Hi Kim,
Great post…loved the imagery of you and Keith hamming it up for the camera on a frozen pond. I tried to leave a comment at HWC, but I couldn’t so I am leaving one here…I also tweeted your post. Congrats, again :)

    • Sorry you had trouble leaving a comment, Dolly. We’ve had some issues with Disqus. :-(
      Thanks for the tweet love!
We do ham it up a lot. Our girls went through stages with our humor. We were wildly funny when they were young. As teens, we were embarrassing. Now we are funny again, and they, too, have delightful senses of humor and ham it up as well. Ah, the cycle of life. ;-D

  2. I’m with Dolly — loving all the fun with the hubs! Don’t those days breathe life into your relationship?

    • I love how you put that, Susan! Those days do breathe life into our relationship. They keep it from getting stale, but they also provide needed fresh air for the occasional times we are feeling suffocated by various things in the world. Thanks for coming by!

    • Although not always the first choice, often it is the best choice. It’s just so difficult sometimes getting there! Thanks for stopping by, Ilene!

  5. I can relate to this one. I am starting to catch the cabin fever. Our weather is similar. I am starting to notice that my favorite lilac bush is starting to get buds; yeah. I also love that you have a B&B. I have always loved that idea.
I am off to finish reading your post.
    Blessings and hugs!

    • Your lilac bush is beginning to bud? You are so far ahead of us in climate! Ours won’t bud until close to the end of May. I will dream of yours. :-)
Hope you are over your cabin fever soon!
