Beets that go Boom

I was making dinner the other night, and tossed sliced beets into the microwave for a reheat.

I went into the office to quickly check my email and heard a low and quick “BOOM!”, followed immediately by popping type sounds, and then another “BOOM!”.

I ran back into the kitchen, stopped the microwave, and clicked open the door to reveal a murder scene.

Ok, it wasn’t quite that bad, but there were beet parts and juice everywhere.

Why did these peeled, sliced, previously cooked vegetables explode? If someone could riddle me that, I would be most appreciative.

As I cleaned up the mess I realized it resembled my day.

You know when you have days that look pretty simple, the tasks are on the easy-breezy side, and then-BOOM!

Your day blows up in your face and there is debris everywhere you look.

What now?

First and foremost, blame must be placed.

Just kidding. Press 2 for the next option.

It’s time to call in the experts from CSI, and just sit back with some snacks and a cold soda and watch them tie the whole mess into a tidy little bow within the hour.

Kidding again.

*BIG SIGH*

Back here in the real world your only true next step is to do the best you can to clean it up, to do a little analyzing to determine if there was any part that was actually preventable, and then use that knowledge to reduce the possibility or size of the next detonation.

Beyond that, we let it go.

We don’t stash it under our desk like a club, waiting to slug that nasty wretch two cubicles down from us at the next time they poke their mug into our space, even if they had nothing to do with it.

We don’t keep it in our purse, eager for the opportunity to beat our spouse with it the next time we are fighting having intense fellowship about some household responsibility.

We also don’t dump it onto our own personal pile of stress, guilt and shoulds that has grown so high it threatens to topple at the slightest provocation.

No, no, no.

We. Let. It. Go.

Hey, that sounds like a cheer: No, no, no! We let it go! Chant it with me now . . .

Go on. Let it go. Now.

I. Said. Let. It. Go.

There. Doesn’t that feel better?

  1. Glad I read this today, I needed to hear that “let it go.” I have a difficult time letting things go sometimes. :) Thanks!

  2. We all do, I think. Glad to be of service!
