Five minute Friday: Still

Joining Lisa-Jo for her Five minute Friday prompt of “Still”. Today she writes:

So on Fridays, we take the dare to become Word Artists. To throw editing and proof reading and critically raised eyebrows out the window. We finger paint with our words – in pink and blue and dark purple. In glitter glue and bright green.

Just five minutes. No more. No less.

Come play word art with us, why don’t you. It’s easy.

I ask : How you can refuse an invitation like that?

If you would like to join us, follow this link, because she can be found at (In)Courage today.

Five Minute Friday: Still

Lives in chaos.

Bad job. No job.

Unsatisfying married life. No married life.

Not enough money. Too many bills.

Too much money. Not enough time to enjoy life.

The list is endless, but the solution is all the same.

Prayer.

Stillness in your heart and your mind.

I know, it’s counterintuitive to pray when it feels like all the dams in your life are bursting and just flooding your life with problems.

But, as Bill Hybels says in his book: you are Too Busy Not to Pray.

Learn to be still. God knows your heart.

He knows you. Inside and out.

Learn to listen, to hear Him speak to you.

If you pray, aren’t you asking for an answer?

How can God possibly get through to you when you are so busy being, doing, running, praying?

Shhhhh.

Listen. And be still.

God always answers your prayers, but you must be still, be aware, and be patient.

Shhhh.

Five minutes are up.

In closing, I invite you to enjoy this video from the group Mercy Me as they sing Word of God Speak.

One of my favorite parts of the song?

I’m finding myself at a loss for words
And the funny thing is it’s okay
The last thing I need is to be heard
But to hear what You would say

Have a blessed day, everyone.

  1. Beautiful words, and so true. Love that song from Mercy Me!

  2. Wonderful, challenge and reminder! Needed that today, thanks!

  3. oh. i love that song. and yes, listening is a key element to praying. i’m finding out more and more each day that my quiet time – my time of stilling myself – is much needed, much enjoyed and much anticipated!

  4. Thank you ladies for your comments. I always find it amusing (ok, maybe the more appropriate word is “annoying”) that I really need that stillness, yet too often I let the urgent take priority over the truly important. I am grateful for this community for the reminders and support we all give and receive.
